The Face Behind 135oak

Hey folks! My name is Taylor Madison and I am 26 years old. I was born and raised in a small town on the St. Lawrence River in Ontario. When I was fourteen I headed off to the Wild West, Cochrane, Alberta. Today I am living in wine country in the Okanagan. I started 135Oak in 2016 as an Instagram account for my mom and I, where we could showcase our love of interior design. In 2018 I decided to pursue my passion for Interior Design and I moved to Vancouver to attend the Vancouver Visual College of Art and Design. April, 2020 in the midst of the pandemic I graduated with a diploma in Interior Design. Since then I have been working on creating a space (135Oak.com) to share my knowledge and projects with you!

A lot of my inspiration for interior design and styling are rooted in my childhood home that my mom renovated. The name 135Oak plays homage to the street name and number of the house where I grew up.

I wouldn't say I lean toward one style 100%. I admire aspects from different era's and mixing them together to create a dynamic design. A few of my staple styles are: midcentury modern, coastal, rustic, industrial, French farmhouse and modern.

More than that, I think it's important to create spaces that are going to serve a purpose. Function is so important when it comes to designing, you can make something look pretty but if it doesn't flow or function properly then you've missed an important step. As Bruno Munari says, "A designer is a planner with an aesthetic sense".
